“The Destined Reign of Troy”

Dr. C. L. Max Nikias is the 11th president of the University of Southern California. Under his leadership, USC now stands among the world’s leading and most selective private research universities. USC is also one of the most economically diverse institutions in the nation, providing more than $300 million in student financial aid from its own funds every year.

Through a heightened focus on recruiting top talent, USC’s academic strength is increasingly driven by a growing list of transformative faculty that includes Nobel laureates, national medal recipients, and more than 80 members of the national academies.

Under President Nikias, USC has increased its focus on interdisciplinary research and education, while making significant investments in informatics, big data, and digital media. Recognizing the university’s opportunity to take a leadership role in patient care and biomedical technology, President Nikias has led USC through historic hospital acquisitions and investments to expand its medical enterprise. The humanities and social sciences remain the heart of the university and have benefited from an increased focus on convergence, while USC remains unique among its private research university peers, boasting six leading arts schools and more than 6,000 students pursuing a degree in the arts.

As a global university, USC continues to build on its history of international engagement. USC enrolls one of largest international student populations of any American university, and has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, São Paolo, Seoul, and Taipei. USC is making investments in technology, teaching, and research infrastructure that open up new learning paradigms for students, both local and remote, and is transforming residential life through a series of new construction projects. With the completion of the USC Village in 2017, USC will offer world-class residential life to students for generations to come.

Enabling USC’s many successes and its financial strength is the $6 billion Campaign for the University of Southern California, which at its launch in November 2011 was the largest fundraising campaign in higher education.

Fueling school spirit, meanwhile—both in the Los Angeles area and throughout the world—is USC Athletics, the glue that holds the Trojan Family together. Under President Nikias, Trojan athletes have been highly competitive in terms of NCAA championships. At the same time, USC has made investments in enhancing its compliance office, which today, is recognized as one of the strongest in the nation.
