2023 Winter Recess update

October 26, 2023

Dear Trojans,

One of the great joys of working at USC is being surrounded every day by faculty and staff who bring amazing talent and dedication to support the university’s mission.

We see firsthand the impact you make through your teaching, research, artistic expression, professional practice, and community service. Your investment in our success is one of the many things that sets USC apart from our peers.

And, with USC Competes, we are committed to investing in you: our world-class faculty and staff.

The passion and energy you bring to USC are key drivers of our students’ success and ensures the university continues to grow and thrive. And we are filled with gratitude.

That was on display recently at Trojan Family Weekend, where we welcomed 4,219 guests from all 50 states and 27 countries to our campuses.

Those who joined us were able to soak in the beauty and feel the palpable energy of our campuses. They tell us the minute they set foot on campus, they are truly treated like family. It’s what makes USC so special and unique. And it’s because of your exceptional efforts.

In recognition of your hard work, we are pleased to announce that USC will be offering an extended Winter Recess for all eligible employees, to begin on Thursday, December 21, 2023, and end on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. We will return to the office on January 3, 2024.

In addition, we will offer an extended Fourth of July holiday to begin on Thursday, July 4, 2024, and end on Friday, July 5, 2024. An updated time-off calendar is now available on the Employee Gateway.

For divisions or units that cannot close completely during Winter Recess, you will be able to take off the equivalent number of regular Winter Recess hours at an alternative time consistent with university policy, and the extended Winter Recess hours may be used any time before June 30, 2024. More detailed information is included in this FAQ.

Together with the entire USC leadership team, we want to express a heartfelt thanks for your hard work and dedication. We look forward to the rest of the fall semester, and we hope you enjoy a restful and peaceful winter break.

Fight On!
