Pac-12 Presidents and Chancellors Vote to Postpone Athletic Competitions Through End of 2020

Statement from President Carol Folt

August 11, 2020

Today the Pac-12 presidents and chancellors unanimously voted to postpone athletic competitions until the end of the calendar year.

The last thing we wanted for our student athletes was to delay the start of their season but after consultation with our medical experts, athletic directors and latest science guidance, we made the decision it was in the best interest of the health and welfare of our students to postpone.  We know this news is hard for our student athletes to hear and our hearts go out to them, their families and their many devoted fans.

I am grateful to Mike Bohn and his organization as they have worked tirelessly with our health advisors and restart teams to implement safety protocols in preparation for Fall Athletics. I am equally proud of our student athletes and how, during this difficult time, they adhered to our guidelines, respected their teammates and coaching staffs, shared their opinions and held onto their burning desire to compete.

I know many in our Trojan community were looking forward to seeing our student athletes shine and excel in their sports this Fall.  The pride we all share in cheering on our student athletes inspires us all, especially when we yearn for a sense of community.  Working together, we will face the challenges ahead and be back on our fields as soon as we can.
